Today is National Random Acts of Kindness day! Although we should be kind to one another every day, the idea behind this holiday is to promote love and kindness by spreading a little light around to friends, family, co-workers, and strangers. Random Acts of Kindness come in all forms – big and small – and how you choose to perform these acts is entirely up to you. Check out these 20 simple ways that you can spread some kindness on this important day (and everyday).
- Smile at someone and tell them to have a great day
- Take a friend out for lunch, just because
- Pay for the person’s morning coffee behind you in the drive thru
- Compliment someone at work
- Bring a treat for your co-workers
- Donate your pre-loved clothing you no longer wear
- Give someone a hug
- Put sticky notes with positive sayings and motivation on the mirror in a public restroom
- Write your partner/friends/a family member/co-worker a list of things you appreciate them for
- Say thank you
- Hold the door open for someone
- Give up your seat to someone on the crowded city bus/train/subway
- Help someone struggling with heavy bags at the grocery store
- Offer to return a shopping cart to the store for someone loading groceries into their car
- Hold the elevator
- Clean up around the office
- Give up a good parking spot
- Mow your neighbour’s lawn when mowing yours (or shovel their driveway)
- Leave a larger than normal tip
- Call your parents or grandparents
Don’t over think your random acts of kindness. The smallest gesture or uplifting words can brighten a person’s whole day!
