No Pool? No Problem! 4 Backyard Summer Activities for the Kids

Don’t have a pool to keep the kids active outside this summer? No problem! Here is a list of a few super cool and fun backyard summer activities that your kids, and maybe even you, will enjoy! Just make sure you have prefab sheds or similar at hand to keep all these cools toys in!

Colourful Squirt Gun Painting

Materials Needed:

  • A water gun
  • Watercolour paper
  • Liquid watercolours
  • An easel (No easel? That’s okay. You can use a thumbtack to stick the paper to a tree)

Directions:

  1. Arrange an easel outside and clip a piece of watercolour paper onto the easel (TIP: if you have two kids, you can clip a piece of watercolour paper to both sides of the easel)
  2. Fill the squirt guns with liquid watercolours
  3. Remind your kids to aim at the paper and not at each other!

Use your Noodle

Materials Needed:

  • Pool noodle
  • Balloons
  • Large basket (ex. laundry hamper)

How to Play:

  1. Blow up a few balloons
  2. Try to get as many balloons as you can into the basket using ONLY the pool noodle

Tin Can Bowling

Materials Needed:

  • 9 tin cans (or as few or as many as you desire)
  • A small ball

How to Play:

  1. You can stack your cans on top of each other OR place them similar to bowling pins
  2. Roll your ball at the tin cans and see how many you can knock down!

Tin Can Toss

Materials Needed:

  • 8 tin cans (or as few or as many as you desire)
  • A few rocks or small ping-pong balls

How to Play:

  1. Spread out your tin cans
  2. Aim your rock or ball and try to get it into the cans

TIP: To make the game even more interesting, you can add little treats into certain cans OR assign points to the cans. Whoever has the most points at the end, wins!
